One of the questions we know that families should ask but don't is "How do we transmit the information about our assets to our heirs to ensure they are successful and avoid family disputes?" We frequently encourage our clients to have family meetings to hash out potential controversies before the will is executed. This does mean you have to reveal every detail of your will but if you have a family business or second, you need to plan ahead of time who will be in charge of those assets. If you choose a neutral 3rd party to handle your will, you should explain this to your children ahead of time. You will want to document the procedures they need to be aware of to successfully handle assets like a home, business or investment. The more information you provide your heirs with, the less likely there will be a dispute or even a challenge of the will in court.
